Planning Update: Proposal of Application Notice for Former Tynecastle High School, Mcleod Street

Gorgie Dalry Community Council and other key stakeholders received the following notification for proposed redevelopment of the former Tynecastle High School site on Mcleod Street, on February 24th 2021. Once we receive more information about this proposal we will circulate the details and invite residents to share their views with us and through the planning process.

“Dear Sir /Madam,

I hereby attach a Proposal of Application Notice and Location Plan providing advance notice of the intention of the Applicant “Tynecastle Teague Limited”   to submit a Planning Application for the Proposed redevelopment of the former Tynecastle High School site, incorporating partial demolition and change of use of the school buildings and new build to form student residential development with associated infrastructure, landscaping, access and parking.

The application team will be in touch in due course to discuss the site and development proposals in more detail and to outline details of a proposed public consultation.

This is just the first notice of this planning application process, so please keep an eye out for further opportunities to submit your views directly to the developers and the City of Edinburgh Council, which we will be advertising as soon as we have more information.

  2. I am appalled that the council are proposing to turn the old TynecastleHigh School into student flats. This area would be perfect for social housing as it is an area where many people needs home and there are great facilities nearby for families. It seems that all we are now building in the centre of Edinburgh are hotels and expensive student housing. All around this area there are currently student housing projects being built in and new hotels also. We need more real families to create stable communities. I worked in housing from the early 1980s till I retired in 2015 and have seen the demise of new social housing building until there is hardly any in the centre of the city – this project needs to be rethought.
