Gorgie Dalry Community Council has been successfully awarded £500 from the Tesco Bags of Help COVID-19 Communities Fund, to support its ongoing COVID-19 response activities.
GDCC has been awarded the funding to enable residents without digital devices to access online Community Council meetings and to help residents to communicate with the Community Council throughout the pandemic, without the need for an internet connection.
GDCC Chair Joan Gordon said, “We are very grateful to Tesco for awarding the GDCC the very generous amount of £500 to allow us to purchase a mobile phone and credit, and to support a a local poster and flyer campaign so that we can advertise our new phone number to offline residents. Residents will be able to use this phone number to get in contact with GDCC without the need for an internet connection. Having the mobile will let us explain how they can dial in to our public meetings on Zoom; a helpful function which has been used before. The credit will help us call/text these residents if any changes to meeting details happen, or to keep them up-to-date on things.”

During the COVID-19 pandemic we have shifted our activities and upheld our responsibilities online (excluding community events which have been postponed until public health guidance allows). We have used our refreshed online networks to co-ordinate COVID-19 mutual aid and other information for vulnerable community members, support local foodbanks, and consult with the community on new social distancing measures in our local high streets.
Our next public meeting will be held via Zoom (accessible via the app, online, or phone) on Monday 7th September at 7pm. Please email us for deatails.
The Tesco Bags of Help COVID-19 Communities Fund is open for applications from community groups until September 18th 2020.
