Network Rail Works on Gorgie Road Railway Bridge – Phase 2 Notification

We received the following notification from Network Rail about the works currently in progress on the railway bridge on Gorgie Road, at the Robertson Avenue/Wheatfield Road junction.

Dear Members, 

IMPROVEMENT WORK – Railway bridge at Gorgie Road, Edinburgh 

As part of our commitment to a safer railway, we have been carrying out the first phase of  our vital work to the railway bridge on Gorgie Road between Robertson Avenue and Wheatfield Road. This is now near completion and we need to move traffic management  and scaffolding to the other side of the bridge to complete the final phase of works. 

The refurbishment of the bridge is part of a wider, rolling programme of maintenance  work on structures which is designed to extend their lifespan and keep the network safe  and reliable. 

To deliver this work safely and efficiently, the partial lane closure will remain in place  under the bridge with temporary traffic lights. We have moved as much noisy work to  dayshift as possible, as we make every effort to reduce disturbance to our lineside  neighbours. 

The second phase of our scheduled programme of work is detailed in the table below:

Monday 8 March – Tuesday 9 March 2021Dayshift 07:30 – 17:30Installation of encapsulation,  setting-up of blasting equipment  & final seal.
Wednesday 10 March until  Wednesday 17 March 2021Dayshift 07:30 – 17:30Grit blasting and painting works  which includes the use of blasting  equipment powered by air fed  compressors
Every Saturday & Sunday from 6 March until 14 March 2021Nightshift 21:00 – 08:00Trackside mechanical  preparation and painting of  metallic elements which includes

Friday 22 of March until  Friday 26 MarchDayshift  07:30-17:00Application of topcoat which  includes the use of generators,  compressors and hand tools 
Monday 29 March until  Friday 2 AprilDayshift 07:30 – 17:30Timber repairs which includes the  use of temporary lighting, generators, small power tools and  hand tools
Monday 5 April until Friday 9 AprilDayshift 07:30 – 17:30Dismantle scaffold which  includes the use of hand and small  power tools
