We received the following notification from the City of Edinburgh Council Spaces for People Team on Friday 26 June 2020.
Dear Councillors and Stakeholders,
Covid-19 Cycling and Walking Emergency Response Measures
Local Town Centres – Update on Town Centre Phase 1 Proposals
On Friday 19 June we issued a notification to you setting out key principles for a first phase of measures for each of the city’s town centres. These principles focused on pavement widening, street decluttering and some parking suspensions to help facilitate pavement widening. We invited you to comment on these principles by 5pm today (26 June).
The principles were identified to quickly address immediate physical distancing and customer queueing requirements to support businesses as they begin to reopen.
Thank you for taking the time to provide a range of extremely helpful feedback. Our intention now is to refine the proposals for each town centre and share these with you for further comments as early as possible during week commencing 6 July.
A second phase of proposals will then follow for comment in the coming weeks, focusing on managing traffic pressures and aiding cycling and public transport provision. This work is being progressed with urgency as we understand our responsibility to ensure that changes are made to ensure the safety of the communities who use and travel through these town centres.
Thank you again for your contributions so far and we look forward to receiving further feedback on the plans for phase one once available.
